Townhall Hasselt

designed by UAU Collective – Frederick Vaes

Frederik Vaes is an architect based in Hasselt. With his studio UAU Collective they took care of the new town hall in Hasselt.

A new building where all service areas of the town Hasselt would be centralized. This building should be a meeting place for its inhabitants. Frederik’s choice for these areas was the new NORA sofa (designed by Lionel Doyen for SDC_lab) and the chairs from the ROOM 26 collection which SDC_lab produces under the label of Quinze & Milan ™.

from the website of UAU Collective:

‘ The design for the new city hall in Hasselt aims to bring together the current administrative services in one location and in this way to organize the service smoothly and in an approachable manner for the citizen. This new city hall will be erected on the site of the old Gendarme barracks on the Guffenslaan. The building plans see a renovation of the old Gendarme barracks with an energy-efficient new building. The accessibility of the central square is emphasized as the heart of HASSalink, which is also reflected in the mirrored wall of the new building. The new city hall has a link to the commercial center as well as to the Groene Boulevard, the hospital and the surrounding school communities. At the same time, the new city hall has to be a real ‘house’ for its visitors. We aspire to a warm and attractive building where everyone will really feel at home.’
